EYE CATCHING ART AT THE JOULE
The Joule’s public spaces, ballrooms, and hallways feature more than 70 large-scale mosaics by mid-century artist Millard Sheets. Originally commissioned in the ‘40s for downtown’s former Mercantile Building, the mosaics were salvaged from demolition by hotel proprietor Tim Headington in 2012. Moving and restoring the intricate designs—made of glass tiles from Murano, Italy—required the painstaking attention of Michael van Enter, a South African conservator based in Dallas.
